Before Crossroads - Jessica's Earlier Work

Many of these titles have either been out for some time on DVD, or have been repeated in the last year or so on freeview. My personal DVD recommendations would be the highly entertaining 'The Worst Witch' and the more serious family drama 'Back Home'.

The Detectives

A comedy series featuring Robert Powell and Jasper Carrot as Briggs and Louis, two less than competent coppers. Jessica appears briefly as a schoolgirl in several scenes in this season 4 episode - Back to Class.
First broadcast: 29/02/1996

Ruth Rendell Mysteries - May and June

Jessica plays May in several flashback scenes, early in episode one. These show the roots of May's jealousy as her father only has time for her sister June.
1997

The Phoenix and the Carpet

Jessica plays the role of Anthea in this E.Nesbit classic.

Note: This has been shown as mini-series in 6 half hour episodes. Assuming 20 minutes of new material per episode, the UK DVD release (a little over 90 minutes long) has around 30 minutes trimmed out. But don't let that put you off as the overall story is preserved.
1997

Holy Joe (AKA Man of Miracles)

This film is in Jessica's IMDB listing, but in fact stars a different actress of the same name.

The Worst Witch (Series 1 to 3)

This series is set at Cackles Academy for Witches. Mildred Hubble is the worst witch at Cackles, though what she learns through her mistakes is often the key to resolving difficult situations. Jessica plays Enid Nightshade, one of Mildred's four best friends. Enid is the most mischievous of the group.

This has been released as 2 DVD box sets in Australia, one for seasons 1+2, another for seasons 3+4 (4 being Wierdsister College). These are region 4 PAL discs, which also play fine in the UK (region 2). Episodes are in full frame (4:3) partially letterboxed format.

These three seasons contain a total of 40 episodes. Enid does not appear in the first 5 episodes (which cover Jill Murphy's first book), nor in the series 2 episode 'The Genius of the Lamp' and series 3 episode 'The Lost Chord'.
Series 1-3 first broadcast: 1998 - 2001

Trial and Retribution 4

Jessica makes two appearances as Fiona Meadows, one of them as a key witness in the courtroom.
2000

Back Home

A postwar drama, in which Jessica stars alongside Sarah Lancashire and plays Virginia 'Rusty' Dickinson, a returning evacuee. Rusty had spent the war in Connecticut USA. But a lot has changed in 5 years, and with the return of her father, family tensions run high. Jessica maintains an American accent throughout.
2001

Wierdsister College (AKA The Further Adventures of The Worst Witch AKA The Worst Witch season 4)

Reprising her role as Enid Nightshade for just one episode - 'Good Friends'. This follow on to the Worst Witch uses just a few of the original characters and contains 13 episodes.
Series 4 first broadcast: 2001 - 2002

The Forsythe Saga

Jessica appears as June Forsythe (aged 14) in a 4 minute ballroom scene amid this 700 minute saga. Unfortunately I dont know which of the ten episodes it was.
2002.
